Derek Schumacher

Derek Schumacher is a Distinguished Technologist at HPE where he leads the definition and advanced development of the technology roadmap for HPE’s mission critical data solutions portfolio. He joined Hewlett-Packard in 2000 and has contributed to the hardware, firmware, and software implementations of projects spanning four different instruction set architectures, as well as multiple generations of industry standards defined by JEDEC, PCI-SIG, ACPI-SIG, TCG, and the UEFI Forum. Derek also led the firmware architecture definition for The Machine research project, demonstrating the Memory-Driven Computing paradigm and the potential of memory-semantic fabric protocols like Gen-Z. As part of his current role, he leads the coordination of CXL technical strategy and use case exploration across multiple business units within HPE.

Derek earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and his Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Stanford University.
